Invitation to the Conference

Distinguished Professors, Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of authorities of University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow, and Kaizen Institute Poland, I have the great pleasure of inviting you to the International Conference of Kaizen Practitioners in the period of May 27-28, 2010.

The main objectives of the conference are:

to integrate the international community of managers and academic staff around the practice and research on KAIZEN applications and challenges,
to give the opportunity for sharing experience, and to promote the best practices of KAIZEN implementing,
to get inspirations for continuous improvement and research projects focused on developing new insights into KAIZEN.

The forthcoming edition of the conference we want to be devoted to Flow Management in the following considerable aspects:

Eliminating waste in business processes,
Inventory management and the practice of Just in Time,
Lean management in theory and practice,
Organizing and balancing the assembly lines,
Effectiveness and efficiency of internal logistics systems,
Experiences of business process management in quality management systems, based on ISO standards,
Implementing and auditing KAIZEN activities in business and public sector,
Logistics competences of organizations.

I also extend to you a cordial invitation to take part in the conference as papers authors and speakers. All submitted papers will have been reviewed for publishing in the special edition of conference book.
Apart from regular speeches and discussions, in the second conference day we would like to serve workshop on the topic of how to use IT tools to support communication, information flows and sharing the knowledge in organization. Conference participants will also have opportunity to visit one chosen firm, and get acquainted with its KAIZEN experience.

Conference venue

The conference will be hosted by the Centre for Tourism and Recreation belonging to the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow (UITM). The Centre is situated 10 kilometres from Rzeszów in Kielnarowa, is an integral part of the most modern scientific and didactic base of UITM and serves as the main recreation and sports centre of the University. The Centre for Tourism and Recreation in Kielnarowa is the biggest complex in the southeast Poland and one of the biggest in the country.

The campus is a huge complex comprising a sports and recreation hall with the main sports arena of 24 thousand square metres, many air-conditioned lecture rooms equipped with computers and multimedia devices, cosmetic chemistry, microbiology and histology laboratories, a gym, a sauna, physical therapy rooms, beauty salons, ‘Taberna pod Sosnami’ Inn with a barbecue and dance floor, a hotel, a hall of residence, riding stables and indoor riding schools. Hypotherapy and horse riding courses are held in the centre. Active recreation seekers are offered numbers of unique forms of leisure, i.a. paintball, skiing, quad driving, and many attractions in a rope park.

The conference venue is surrounded by the beautiful landscape of Dynow Plateau.

Keynote speakers

Euclides de Almeida Coimbra

CEO / Managing Director Kaizen Institute Consulting Group AG

	Degree in Industrial Engineering from Porto University, Portugal. Joined Kaizen® Institute of Europe in 1999 as Branch Manager. He was then promoted to European Director in 2000. Since joining Kaizen® Institute, he worked with many companies such as textile, automotive, distribution, electronics and consumer goods. In 2003 he was promoted to Operations Director, Kaizen Institute Consulting Group AG, with responsibility for Global Contracts and managing consulting assignments for Corporations Worldwide. In 2005 he was promoted to CEO of Kaizen Institute Consulting Group AG, responsible for a network of Business Units all around the world. Prior to joining Kaizen® Institute, Euclides Coimbra was a Production Engineer with Texas Instruments in charge of continuous improvement (Kaizen®) projects and a Professor in the Oporto Faculty of Engineering. He then served as a consultant in Price Waterhouse and started his own industrial engineering consulting company (later absorbed by KI). Based on his practical experience on implementing Kaizen and Lean he wrote the book “Total Flow Management: Achieving Excellence with Kaizen and Lean Supply Chains”. Euclides Coimbra is a Portuguese national, and speaks English and Spanish fluently

Wiesław Grudzewski Professor, Institute of Organization and Management in Industry
	Prof. Dr Wieslaw M. Grudzewski is a Vice Chairmen of Scientific Council of Institute of Organization and Management in Industry “ORGMASZ”. He is also a Correspondent Member of Polish Sciences Academy and Titular Member of European Academy of Science, Arts and Humanities. He is an author of 38 books and 470 publications. His key expertise include strategic management, operation research, trust management, virtual organizations and knowledge organizations.

Irena Hejduk Professor, Warsaw School of Economics
	Prof. Dr Irena K. Hejduk is a professor of economics and Head of Management Systems Department at Warsaw School of Economics (the leading economic university in Central and Eastern Europe). She is also a Correspondent Member of European Academy of Arts, Sciences and Humanities. She is an author of 317 paper, including 37 books. Her major interests include transfer of technologies, knowledge management, trust management, technological entrepreneurship, international business and strategic management.

Rafał Matwiejczuk A lecturer, Faculty of Economics, Opole University
	Ph.D. in economics (specialties: logistics, marketing), MSc in management and marketing (specialty: business management). The author of Marketing-logistics Management. Value and Effectiveness (published by Wydawnictwo C.H. Beck, Warszawa 2006), co-author of five other scientific publications, the author and co-author of over 25 scientific articles and papers. Fourfold participant of Polish-American Summer School in Economics (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997). From 2005 to 2008 vice-dean in charge of organisation affairs, Faculty of Management and Production Engineering, Opole University of Technology. A holder of Brązowy Krzyż Zasługi, awarded by the President of Republic of Poland in 2003. Cooperation with several enterprises, such as Grupa Górażdże (HeidelbergCement Group) and BOT Elektrownia Opole SA. The chairman of supervisory board of Opolskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Samochodowej SA in Opole from 2007 to 2008.

Stanisław Sroka President of the Board, Chief of Enterprise
	He is a graduate of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, faculty of Electrical Engineering and a graduate (MA and MBA) of Leon Koźmiński Academy of Entrepreneurship and Management in Warsaw, faculty of Economics. He is a Chairman of Project Management Association (Poland), Vice-Chairman of International Project Management Association and a co-founder member of European Foundation for Quality Management Polish club. Being a President of Management Board and a founder of Transsystem Company, he was simultaneously the Manager of "Reorganisation of Transsystem to Project Oriented Company" Project, which became the finalist of Project Management Award organized by IPMA in 2002. He is the author of publications on Project Management, Controlling, Accountancy, TQM and Management scopes. He is specialized in integration of project management and quality management approaches in Project Oriented Companies - which is the subject of Ph. D. dissertation he is writing at Warsaw University. He is the sole certified A class Project Manager in Poland. He has been twice the finalist of ‘Manager of the Year' competition organized by prestigeous Managers Association (Poland). In 2009 he achieved a title of the finalist of the "Entrepreneur of the Year" organized by Ernst & Young.

Tomasz Kudzia Quality Engineer, KAIZEN Implementation Coordinator in Kęty Group
	Graduated in Cracow University of Technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Management and Production Engineering in speciality Information Technology in Production Management Systems. Internal auditor of ISO/TS 16949. He worked with many companies such as Isusu Motor Poland inTychy and Servoll Company. Since 2008 Quality Manager in Kęty Group responsible for control of ISO/TS 16949 standards. Kaizen Implementation Coordinator in Kęty Group, particurarly in Aluprof Bielsko Biała and Aluform Tychy (among others flow management projects, staff suggestion systems, kazien basic). He is certified Kaizen Trainer
